Each year, the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners hosts a Symposium for its members. The Symposium is one of the key benefits of membership, providing members with a rare opportunity to network with their peers, and to study technical subjects related to financial planning at an advanced level.
This year, our seventh annual Symposium takes place in the historic city of London, Ontario on October 1st to 3rd, with round-table sessions Saturday morning (Oct. 3rd) and an optional Welcome Reception the evening of Sept. 30th.
Base cost to attend the Symposium is $600 plus GST, with an Early Bird rate of $500 plus GST (if you register and pay in full before July 15th).
The Symposium will be held at the London Convention Centre. Accomodations will be at the connecting Hilton London Hotel. Members will be informed how to obtain the $139 per night rate at the Hilton when they register for this event. Sponsors and media reps should contact the IAFP at 1-888-298-3292 for instructions on how to obtain the room rate discount.
Only IAFP members in good standing may attend the Symposium. To become a member of the IAFP, please visit Become a Member.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn and interact with other advanced planners. Members can register for the event now. (Symposium reference documents such as speakers’ presentations and papers will be posted as they become available to the Symposium 2009 Downloads page, which requires pre-registration and payment to access.)
Last year’s theme, “Inter-generational Transfers - A Royal Pain” won acclaim. The case study was developed into a 3-part series in Advisor’s Edge Report.
This year’s theme is Sustainability - Sharing responsibility for what we cannot control. The case study, “How would you solve a problem like HAPPY VALLEY?” will explore the relationship between money, community, sustainability and true wealth. The full case and Speakers’ Bios/Abstracts have now been posted on the IAFP Members’ Symposium Details page. When you register, you will be asked to choose one of the following case study challenges:
A revised Agenda and Speakers’ Bios & Abstracts have now been posted in the Related Downloads box to the upper right, which also includes further information about Symposium 2009 and a grid showing sponsorship opportunities currently available. Shawn Brayman will tell us how to navigate the perfect storm; Gary Hawton will offer guidance on how to sustain your practice; Patrick Farmer and others will offer insights on how to add lasting value in a tumultuous market.
In simplest terms, sustainability means that resources must be used at a rate at which they can be replenished. As financial planners, we must ask ourselves what role we play in advising clients and in applying the concept of sustainability to modern lifestyles, including our own.
Stay tuned. There’s more to come! More complete information on the agenda, key topics and speakers will be posted shortly. Contact us at 1-888-298-3292 if you wish to know more.
