The IAFP’s fourth annual Symposium was sold out 6 weeks in advance. The beautiful city of Victoria hosted 25% of our membership for what is being called one of the best Symposia yet. More than 80% of delegates stated that they plan to attend Montreal in 2007. Read some of their comments at the bottom of this page. See what the media had to say in the box to the right.
All sessions were well attended, including the ones that started at 08:30, and the AGM where IAFP President Larry Jacobson spoke to more than 100 R.F.P.s about how we are continuing to raise the bar to ensure our members stand out from the crowd.
We expanded to three case studies this year, reflecting the diverse needs of our aging population. The cases dealt with a wide range of challenging issues in planning for “Life’s Later Stages”. The topic of Aging sparked interest beyond our organization, with requests to attend from California and Europe. We began with a roundtable discussion/introduction of the case studies. Speakers directed their presentations to these and the event was closed with a recap of information and a second opportunity to share ideas during roundtable discussions.
Sponsorship levels reached unprecedented heights this year as we created new Sponsorship opportunities to accommodate the demand. Due to limited booth space, we were forced to create a wait list. We were pleased to have Phillips Hager & North, Investment Executive, PWL Capital, CCH Canadian Limited, and Advisor”s Edge return this year. Thanks also to our new sponsors — Standard Life Investments, TD Canada Trust, Canadian Western Trust, Hemisphere Capital, FundEX Investments Inc., Academy of Financial Divorce Specialists, PureLogix and GGOF.
If you are an IAFP Member who missed the Symposium but would like to purchase the papers and presentations for $125, contact us first at 1-888-298-3292, then visit the Symposium 2006 Downloads page. (Symposium delegates can download documents that have been added or updated since the Symposium from the same page.)
The Academy of Financial Divorce Specialists once again provided members an opportunity to earn additional CE credits immediately following the wrap-up of our Symposium.
The Gala dinner and dance at the oceanfront McMorran’s Beach House was also a highlight for both delegates and guests. After a sumptuous meal, we danced the night away. Yes, some of us felt the effects of Life’s Later Stages ourselves the following day; but most showed up early Saturday morning for the roundtable discussions, and to hear Howard Dixon’s “Through the Looking Glass” perspectives on insurance.
The stage is set for Symposium 2007 in Montreal, September 27th to 29th. See you there!
