Record numbers attended the 10th annual symposium of The Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP) in Vancouver, Sept. 13th to 15th.
The symposium’s agenda is touched on below and illustrates the Institute’s commitment to the highest level of financial planning content specific to Canadians. The symposium’s impressive agenda and speakers drew record attendance not only by members but non-members as well.
About 25% of the audience were non-members, there to gain insight to important planning matters while sampling how a membership in the Institute of Advanced financial Planners will improve their professional capabilities. Further evidence of the value that the organization delivers across the industry is the participation of CAs from public practices.
Special thanks go out for the knowledge shared by several Canadian, American and Australian contributors.
A complex, and real client case study was analyzed by a panel of three authorities; a CA, an industry-leading investment expert, and a top trust and an estate lawyer. Each person made a recommendation of appropriate action before the attending RFP presented the plan delivered to his client. It turned out that the course of action taken by the RFP was consistent with the advice offered by all three specialists. Another feather in the cap for the Institute!
Delegates learned tips and tactics on how to build and operate sustainable and profitable businesses. Strategies were presented in regards to succession planning, recent advances in total-client risk assessment, and motivating employee performance.
An entertaining and illuminating exercise was discussion around alternative responses to a common ethical dilemma. Real time electronic voting kicked off an energetic debate and conclusion.
The room was overflowing as the symposium delved into the complexities of dual citizenship and how to effectively serve clients by understanding and navigating IRS regulations. This is an important topic for planners looking to serve high-income earners with U.S. interests.
