The Institute of Advanced Financial Planners™ (IAFP®) is seeking passionate volunteers to join one of our committees. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of Canada’s advanced financial planning profession, support our mission to elevate professional standards and advocate for the value of the Registered Financial Planner® (R.F.P.®) designation.

We’re currently looking for committee members for the following teams:

Membership Growth Committee

The Membership Growth Committee is dedicated to sustaining and expanding the IAFP® by recruiting new members who meet the high standards of the Registered Financial Planner® (R.F.P.®) designation. This committee plays an essential role in ensuring the continued relevance and strength of the IAFP® within the financial planning community.

Membership Growth Committee Responsibilities

  • Identify and target financial planners across Canada, particularly those committed to professional excellence.
  • Develop strategies and outreach initiatives that highlight the value of membership and the R.F.P.® designation.
  • Collaborate with other committees to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with the IAFP®’s mission.
  • Track recruitment progress and recommend improvements to enhance membership growth efforts.

Education Committee

The Education Committee oversees and ensures the integrity and relevance of IAFP®’s educational requirements. This committee is crucial in upholding the organization’s education standards and providing valuable support for candidates pursuing their R.F.P.® designation. We’re looking for volunteers for both the Curriculum Development team and the Technical Implementation team.

Education Committee Responsibilities

  • Review and update the Technical and Ethics Exams and their corresponding study guides to align with industry best practices.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent marking rubric for the Technical Exam to ensure fairness in evaluation.
  • Mark completed exams and provide timely feedback to candidates.
  • Refine processes to support Associate Members in progressing toward their R.F.P.® designation.

Sponsorship Committee

The Sponsorship Committee plays a key role in securing the financial support necessary for the IAFP®‘s Annual Symposium. By building and maintaining strong relationships with sponsors, the committee helps ensure the financial sustainability and success of this important event.

Sponsorship Committee Responsibilities

  • Identify and engage potential sponsors whose values align with the goals of the symposium and the IAFP®.
  • Develop sponsorship packages that offer value and visibility for participating sponsors.
  • Cultivate ongoing relationships with existing sponsors to encourage long-term support.
  • Collaborate with other committees to seamlessly integrate sponsorship opportunities into symposium planning.

Plan Review Committee

The Plan Review Committee is responsible for evaluating sample financial plans submitted by Associate members as part of their progression toward earning the Registered Financial Planner® (R.F.P.®) designation.

Plan Review Committee Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and marking submitted financial plans in accordance with established criteria and professional standards.
  • Ensuring all evaluations are thorough, consistent, and objective, providing constructive feedback to support candidate development.
  • Upholding the integrity of the R.F.P.® designation by maintaining high standards of financial planning practice and documentation.
  • Collaborating with the Education Committee as needed to ensure alignment between the plan review process and broader educational requirements.

The committee plays an essential role in maintaining the rigour and credibility of the R.F.P.® designation by ensuring that only qualified individuals meet the standards required for certification.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Members in good standing (Professional, Retired or Associate)

 

No prior volunteer experience is required—only a passion for advancing the profession and a commitment to the IAFP® mission.

Committee Member Responsibilities

  • Attend periodic meetings (virtually)
  • Collaborate on specific projects aligned with the IAFP®’s strategic goals.
